    Lead Data Engineer

    £60,000-£80,000 DOE + 10% Bonus & Benefits

    Scotland - Remote Options Available/ Travel to Client Sites Required

     

    MBN have partnered exclusively with a brand new Data consultancy  based in Scotland.  They are looking to hire a Lead Data Engineer, to be one of the first members of their team.

     

     The consultancy specialises in supporting organisations  in vital sectors like construction, manufacturing and property that have historically underinvested in technology and need to modernise rapidly.

     

    This is a great opportunity to help build a new data driven consultancy in Scotland, being one of their first employees, helping shape and define Data Engineering capabilities for their clients. The role will be for a Senior Data Engineer who is happy to work as part of a small, growing team, and is happy to work independently. 

     

    The business will be growing rapidly over the course of the next 18 months hiring a full team of data experts within Scotland. 

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Build, own and operate business intelligence systems for multiple clients

    • Work with internal stakeholders and clients to prioritise improvements to these systems

    • Monitor all data update processes and outputs to ensure quality and up time.

    • Refine and improve processes to make them efficient and repeatable

    • Document all processes in a way accessible to non-technical users

    • Apply strong data governance principles to all aspects of the solutions, ensuring data is kept safe and

    users can only access the data they are eligible to see

     

    Requirements: 

    • Can communicate complicated concepts to a non-technical audience

    • Have extensive experience in data modelling

    • Are an expert with SQL, including concepts like window functions, CTEs

    • Have strong Python skills, specifically getting data from APIs, using DataFrames and interacting with SQL

    databases

    • Can create interactive visualisations in tools like PowerBI (or similar)

    • Have a driving licence and transport to visit client sites around Scotland (occasionally)

    • Get excited about creating and optimising a repeatable process

     

     

    Desirable characteristics

    In addition to the mandatory characteristics above, we would especially like to talk to you if you have these skills:

    • A keen business sense and prioritise outcomes instead of shiny technology

    • Experience with Microsoft Power Apps

    • Experience of cloud providers such as Azure (preferred), AWS or GCP

    • Domain experience in construction, renewables or engineering

    • Experience of administering databases

    • Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines

    • Experience of Git

    • Experience mentoring junior members of staff
