It was great to see everyone who attended Glasgow’s second Meetup at the Tontine Building last night.

Thanks to Eleni Kotzampasaki and Jonathan Forbes; from Aquila Insight, who presented topics on “Why beautiful data is good data” and “how to build the perfect data scientist.”

Eleni Kotzampasaki, Analytics Lead, opened the evening with a fascinating presentation around “Data Storytelling”.

In her presentation, Eleni discussed the variety of techniques she uses to “bring data to life” including her personal philosophy regarding the use of narratives and themes within analytical visualisations. I think it’s fair to say it’s the first time we’ve had Ancient Greek Myths and Legends included in a Meet-Up discussion!

Following Eleni, Jonathan Forbes took to the stage.

In his role as Chief Architect of Engineering and Analytics with Aquila Insight, Jonathan has a very clear idea of the skills, technologies and approaches that he believes form the perfect balance between Data Science and Engineering. In a humorous, interactive presentation Jonathan talked about “Building the Perfect Data Scientist – An Engineer’s Humble View” – with some excellent examples of classic Scientist/Engineering partnerships from technology and beyond.

Thanks to both speakers and we hope those who attended or watched the live stream enjoyed the night.

Information on August’s MeetUp in Edinburgh will be revealed soon.
