MBN is delighted to announce support for a competition to win an expenses paid business trip to California to attend and present at the first ever  Scottish Start-up Summit in San Francisco in July.

The project is the brainchild of 19-year-old Scottish businessman Bruce Walker.  His not-for-profit company, We Are The Future, last year organised Britain’s biggest national event for young entrepreneurs in Scotland – the Scottish Start-up Summit 2013, again with the support of MBN.

Bruce said “We are putting together a week long entrepreneurial programme, culminating in the Scottish Start-up Summit in San Francisco in July to inspire young Scottish and American start-up entrepreneurs.  The competition winners will have opportunities to engage with the US entrepreneurial community, improve their contacts and expand their international ambitions.”

MBN are not only providing financial support for this initiative but are also assisting in the planning of the trip and will be attending in a support capacity. Michael Young, CEO of MBN stated “we recognise that we have a responsibility to give every support to young entrepreneurial businesses and that is why we jumped at the opportunity to back this initiative. I especially liked the competitive nature and international aspect of the project, both of which have been critical to our own success”.

The competition is open to Scottish based businesses, led by a young entrepreneur under 30 years old which have been trading for less than 18 months.

The young entrepreneurs will take part in a week long programme of events and meet-ups culminating in a conference in San Francisco on July 26th.  The precise schedule is still being finalised but it will include meetings with business leaders and venture capitalists as well as with start-up businesses in San Francisco.

The competition is expected to be launched formally next month.  Among other supporters of the Scottish Start-up Summit in San Francisco are Scottish Development International and The Royal Bank of Scotland.
