Following on from the last 3 years’ successes, MBN Solutions are delighted to announce that, once again, the partners for the 2019/20 Data Lab MSc Placement Programme.

Last year’s programme saw 100 Data Lab funded students spending time with leading Scottish based organisations such as the Scottish Government, NHS, CYBG, Previse and Volunteer Scotland. These students participated in a 10-12 week’s long work placement specifically designed to enhance their commercial, technical and general domain expertise.

This year’s cohort has grown to 155 funded students, across 11 Universities, studying a variety of Data focused courses. The expansion of this programme will ensure the continued flow of extremely talented workplace ready data scientists to Scottish organisations.

All of this year’s funded students have the opportunity to participate in a paid industrial placement, putting the new skills that they acquired during their MSc course into practice within a commercial environment.

We have deployed a suite of Employability training to the funded students. We cover CV creation, interview skills and networking advice, giving the students the knowledge that they need to be successful in a commercial environment. We then work with these students to identify and secure data- specific industrial placements at a broad spectrum of leading Scottish organisations.

Nikola (the newest member of the Academy team!), Rob and myself are halfway through our tour of Scottish Universities. So far, we have visited Heriot Watt, Stirling, Aberdeen and Robert Gordon and Glasgow Universities, with visits to other Universities scheduled over the rest of November.

The student talent at these Universities had been very impressive!

The passion, motivation and skills that these students have are exceptional. The range and variety of students is equally as impressive, some students coming from distinguished careers, transitioning into a new area. Others are coming from a strong academic background, with impressive credentials.

There are also several Data Lab MSc Programme Partner Launch events scheduled across Scotland, which are specifically aimed at organisations who are interested in learning more about the programme. Representatives from The Data Lab, MBN and past Host Organisations will be present to answer any questions and share their experience.

This week, we are back at Stirling University, then up to Inverness for a Launch event. I’m very excited to be involved in this Programme again and speak with talented students in addition to forward thinking organisations.

If you are interested in learning more about this amazing initiative, please get in touch for more information.
