The Challenge
Engine B is a technology start-up business that required a talent partner to deliver multiple, complex, diverse, niche hires for its data and technology team while operating to tight timelines.
Without an in-house talent function providing advice and oversight, and contending with the frantic and complex nature of start-up life, MBN had to empower Engine B’s leadership team to focus on their core activity rather than being distracted unnecessarily by recruitment tasks, process and administration.

The Solution
A director level team initiated a discovery phase with Engine B’s CEO and COO – where every aspect of the organisation, culture, team, challenge and requirements were discussed.
In this initial conversation, it became evident that, because Engine B was operating without a dedicated People function, we needed to absorb this function into our workflow.
Absorbing the People function into our workflow, we were able to quickly and efficiently understand the unique nuances of Engine B and find skilled and experienced talent that added value to and shared the culture and values of the Engine B founders, a crucial element in attracting best-fit candidates.
To deliver the services, a bespoke account team was assembled comprising of recruitment consultants from data, analytics and technology backgrounds under the management of MBN’s Head of Data Recruitment. This flexible team utilised a variety of techniques, channels and strategies to successfully place a variety of individuals with Engine B over the next few months.

The Results
During a 10 week window, we successfully completed eight hires on behalf of Engine B’s data and technology team. Vacancies were filled using a mixture of permanent and contract models. These appointments included practitioner, senior practitioner and managerial level appointments for data and software engineering positions, establishing a centre of excellence in Glasgow with multiple job functions and levels of experience. The company has built a truly diverse team with a shared purpose, all amid the COVID pandemic.
